Literature Unit - Short Stories
Delve into a wide variety of contemporary and classic short stories. Follow the experiences of empathetic characters who must escape from volcanoes, overturned sail boats, and dangerous snow storms. Read the classic story of “Rip Van Winkle” written by Washington Irving who is considered America’s first master of the short story. Analyze the elements of a short story and what differentiates them from the novel. Practice identifying and correcting run-on sentences and sentence fragments. For the final project develop your own short story.
