During this unit on perimeter and area, your child will develop a conceptual understanding of these measures and then will use what she knows about addition and multiplication to calculate perimeter and area for a variety of shapes. As well, she will figure out perimeters, areas, and lengths of sides when given only partial information. She will also extend her understanding of finding the areas of rectangles to finding the areas of more complex shapes and will learn how to break down more complex shapes in order to determine their total areas. For her final project, your child will design a variety of buildings based on given areas and perimeters and using her own creativity.
