Lesson 2: Light
Over the past few days, you have learned about the special characteristics of light. Review the facts about light in the "Things to Know" section. Be sure you understand the difference between light colors and paint colors. Can you explain the relationship between light and other objects, whether they absorb, reflect, or refract light?
Questions to Discuss
- How are rainbows made?
- How are paint colors and light colors different?
- What is the difference between reflection and absorption?
- What is refraction? (The bending of light as it travels through a transparent surface.)
Things to Review
Go over the steps on the scientific method with your child. Review the difference between reflection and absorption of light. Review the colors made when light is mixed: cyan, magenta, and yellow. Discuss that light travels in a straight line, and when a light is blocked, shadows form.
