It's pretty fun working with big numbers. During the next lesson, you'll learn another way to represent powers of 10 and practice multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by powers of 10.

Questions to Discuss

  • Write 100,000,000,000 on a piece of paper, and ask your child to do the following:
    Say the number (100 billion)
    Say what number is ten times more than 100 billion (one trillion)
  • Ask your child what one-thousandth times 10 equals (.01 or one hundredth)

Review what happens to whole numbers and decimal numbers when you multiply and divide by 10
