Lesson 6: A River Ran Wild

Day 2

Reread the story with your child, this time encouraging her to focus on the borders on every left-hand page. Discuss the details of the borders and how the borders support the text and story. Illustrations help to tell the story in addition to the text.

Activity 3: Timeline of Events

Materials: glue or tape
Review that in the story people changed the environment for the worse and then corrected their mistakes and changed the environment for the better. Encourage your child to make a timeline of events in the story on the pages titled, "Timeline of Events," beginning with the native people discovering the Nashua River. Beneath each event, ask her to draw a simple picture to symbolize the event. She can use the borders on each page for ideas.
