Which age range
Fort Stewart, GA
I am seriously considering using this curriculum this year. But, I can't decide in which age range to place my daughter. She recently turned 8 and should be in the 3rd grade. She is reading at a 5th grade level, but we have been doing another program that did not include as much writing. However, she loves to write and often writes small reports on her own. Coming from classical, we have not worked on science as much as other subjects, and I would like for her to get a good base in science this year. I am thinking that the 7-9 age range will be best for her, but keep going back and forth between 7-9 or 8-10. Any suggestions?

The curriculum is fairly writing-intensive starting at the age 7-9 level. I would encourage you to go on the website and complete the placement exams with your daughter to help you decide. The reading level is not as important when matching the level as long as she can read the books without struggling. When someone is wavering between two levels, it is usually recommended to use the lower level. We want the reading to be easily completed so that the learning will feel natural and fun. There is plenty of leeway within the curriculum to dive deeper into subjects that interest your child as well and make the projects or assignments more difficult. Most assignments also have two options for completion. The first is easier and the second more difficult. This will also allow you to adapt the curriculum more closely for your child.
