Considering Moving Beyond the Page notify me

I actually already use MBtP (4-5, 5-7, soon to launch into 6-8) but wasn't sure where to post this.

My state (SC) requires submission of a "syllabus explaining weekly schedule of instruction in each course, including pages to be covered in each text book and other instructional materials." I contacted the only person I've been able to reach at the state level and she had no guidance on how to translate (what I consider to be wonderfully thorough and well-put together) Parent Manuals based on daily plans with weekly achievements (but no weekly breakdown of pages and whatnot). She also said that it needs to be in the weekly format so I can't just copy pages from the Parent Manual.

Any ideas? Anyone successfully converted information into this syllabus format? Maybe, even though I've searched everywhere I can think of, I'm overlooking an obvious fix?

Ideas appreciated!

Hi Aleeza,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. Each state is just a little bit different, so I hope that you will hear from someone with actual experience in SC as well.

Most families that need to report to their states use what we call the Summary of Skills. These are broken down by 3 week increments instead of 1 week increments, but you may be able to make it work.

If you navigate to the curriculum page of our website, and select the "Read More" link beneath Age 6-8 (or just click this link: About Age 6-8), you will see a section called Summary of Skills. There is a link for each of the concepts, and then an additional link for math as well. If you click the link, you will see which standards are covered in each of the three units in that 9-week concept. One possible way to list these might be to have the identical information for Weeks 1, 2 and 3. For example,

Week 1
S, SS, LA - Age 6-8 - Concept 1 - Community - Unit 1 - Communities Around the World
Skills Covered
(Copy and paste the skills from the web page here)

Week 2
(This would look identical to Week 1)

Week 3
(This would look identical to Weeks 1 and 2)

Week 4
S, SS, LA - Age 6-8 - Concept 1 - Community - Unit 2 - Citizenship
Skills Covered
(Copy and paste the skills from the web page here)

Finish this process throughout the year.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the SC guidelines, so don't know for sure that this is what they are looking for, but it would certainly be a good place to start.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Many thanks, Keith. This is essentially what I've done with the addition of book titles, authors, and pages + workbook pages + websites covered/visited/completed since they require that in the weekly format too. I had hoped it might be easier but am happy I didn't overlook something obvious or over complicate things unnecessarily.

Thank you again!
