Hello
I am a Speech Language Pathologist with over 25 years of experience working in the public schools. Like most, my faith in the public schools is becoming shaky. For a while now I've been thinking about different ways I can use my knowledge and experience. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could use my skills to support the home school community? Do most of you who have children with speech and language needs use public school services? Are you generally pleased with those services? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

We use public school speech as well, and I haven't had any problems. I didn't really want to homeschool speech as I knew we had multiple issues that required professional attention and we couldn't afford private tutorage. It would be nice to have available materials to address what is developmentally appropriate for each age, maybe a home assessment and some practice ideas. However, the results we're getting through the school are working well.

We have been very happy with public school services for both speech and OT. They have been easy to work with and good with our daughter. They even set up the apts back to back so we didn't have to go out to the school 2x a week. They provided us with materials to use and a curriculum/guide for summer work as our daughter did not qualify for extended year service.
We also do private OT to supplement areas not addressed through the district. We have not needed to supplement speech at all.
