My son will be using 12-14 for part of 9th grade, but where to go from there?! Has anyone found a high school program that is similar to MBtP as far as quality and extent of literature, as well as including numerous hands-on projects? Is it time for me to begin unschooling/piecing together my own for high school? Thanks for any input!

Hi Vanessa,

Thanks for asking about a high school program. We are currently developing a high school program. Unfortunately, we don't anticipate releasing our first courses until the fall of 2017. We don't have anything for you this year, but we are working hard to offer a great program for high school students.

Let us know if you have additional questions.

YAY!! I am so glad to hear this. I will have a ninth grader this year and was really hoping it would be out for him but in two years I will have another ninth grader so it will be perfect for her.

I'm excited at the prospects of high school being added! My children are years away but just knowing that there will eventually be courses by MBtP takes a little bit of the worry out of my mind.

We are needing to plan high school and I would love an update. Will 9th grade be available by August? Can we get a sneak preview of what it will look like?

When I called and asked a month ago, I was only told that one of the lit units was Call of the Wild....did not sound like it was close to be purchase-ready though....

Hi Christiane,

Thanks for your question. As is the case with our other levels, the high school level will be available both in print and online. You will be able to choose which format you prefer.

I'm unable to see samples or detailed info on the website. I'd like to know which short stories are included and what the literary elements covered in that unit are, and would love to see samples. Also interested in the ancient history. Thanks!

There is more detailed info under the IdeaShare tab. It's a neat way to check on the progress as the program is being developed.

HI I was wondering how you would calculate high school credit. I am using the 12-14 for my 9th grader and wanted to know what you would categorize the science as(chemistry?) and if you think it would equal a whole credit? Also the language arts? Thanks

Hi. I am also using 12-14 for 9th grade. Did you find answer to your question. Didn't want to miss this 12-14 as so much good stuff and seems very advanced but concerned not meeting high school requirements. Would like to perhaps correspond about this.

Hi Karen! We ended up putting our son in Public School for 9th grade. Life has some crazy turns. From what I've seen of 12-14, it most definitely is enough to meet High School requirements. The only thing I would change is the science. I would focus on one subject for the year since he'll need a full year credit for each biology and chemistry. Maybe study Biology in 9th, then focus on Chemistry in 10th?

Hi Deborah,

We plan on releasing our first level of High School Social Studies/History for the 2018-2019 school year. I'm sorry we don't have an ETA for the second level of Language Arts at this time.

Please let me know if I can answer any further questions.

Thank you,
Vicki

Thank you, Vicki. Does MBTP have any recommendations for high school English curricula that would allow for seamless transition? (My son has been with MBTP since 2nd grade and will be a sophomore).

Unfortunately, we hit a road bump in our history development this year, so we are not going to be releasing our first high school history course this summer. We will keep you updated as we continue the search for another writer that can pick this project back up.

Unfortunately, we don't have any more high school curricula that will be available this summer. We have one level of social studies and one level of language arts in the early stages of development. We don't anticipate their release until summer 2020 or 2021. Unfortunately, there is no high school science in the works at the moment.

I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the curriculum! At the moment, we don't have an estimated timeframe for releasing any more high school curriculum. We do have one level of language arts and one level of social studies under development, but we don't know when they will be released.

I am currently using the High School Language Arts course for my 9th grader. We purchased the whole year through our charter school. I am looking at the schedule and it says that at the end of each semester, there is a week for a semester test. Is this something that MBTP provides, or do I have to come up with something on my own? All we received were the reading books and the unit books.

You will find the semester exam at the end of Unit 5: Nonfiction. It is found right after the Final Project for that Unit.

Are there any new developments in releasing additional MBtP high school levels beyond High School 1? Are there any release dates for more language arts and social studies? Are you still on track for summer 2020 or 2021?

Thank you for any information! We've been a devoted MBtP family since our daughter was in third grade!

It would be great if more high school curriculum could be fast-tracked given the current state of the world with Covid-19. Our son used this curriculum in middle school, but we chose to send him to a brick and mortar high school for this year. Even if schools re-open in the fall, we will not be sending him due to the risk of disease and having high-risk family members. I'm sure there will be others in the same boat who will be looking to home school for high school.

Not asking for any release dates or time frames, but are more levels of high school in the works? Or are you no longer working on them and MBTP ends permanently at High School level 1?

We plan to complete our math through middle school first. We will then start working on high school language arts followed by high school social studies. We can't even estimate when they will be available for sale at this time. (I, personally, have two rising seventh-graders and would LOVE to have the language arts for them but it will not be ready in time for us.)
