Borrowed Books™

Borrowed Books is a book rental service from Moving Beyond the Page that provides a more affordable alternative to buying the required literature. Borrowed Books is half the cost of purchasing new books, and is much more convenient than coordinating with the local library.

Moving Beyond the Page is a literature-rich curriculum. We incorporate many quality book selections into our daily lessons. Before Borrowed Books parents had to either purchase all of the required books or coordinate with the local library. With Borrowed Books, you can rent books instead of buying them. Borrowed Books is 50% of the list price of the required literature.

How It Works

After you purchase a full-year package with Borrowed Books, you must notify us when you are ready to receive your first semester books. Once you do this, we will send you all of the required books for the first semester. You have 9 months to finish the first semester and return the books to us. When you are ready for the second semester, let us know and we will ship those books. You now have 9 months to return those books, and 45 days to return the first semester books. This should give you plenty of time to finish the first semester and begin the second semester with no delay.

This system will give you a full 18 months to finish the curriculum, so you don’t need to worry about falling behind.

Shipping Costs

Moving Beyond the Page will provide free return postage for Borrowed Books. As long as you take good care of your books and return them on time, there are no additional costs for Borrowed Books.

The Keeper’s Fee

The Keeper’s Fee is the fee you are charged if you decide that you want to keep a book, do not return books by the scheduled date, or the books are returned in poor condition. The Keeper’s Fee consists of the remaining 50% of the list price of the book plus a 10% restocking fee.

Here is a breakdown of the different conditions that we use to evaluate our books:

  1. New
New or like new condition. The spine and cover show no signs of wear. There is no writing inside or outside of the book.
  2. Good
Gently used, but remains in good condition. The spine and cover may show signs of gentle wear. There is no writing inside or outside of the book.
  3. Acceptable
Shows signs of wear. The pages and cover are intact, but the spine may show signs of wear. There may be a small amount of writing inside the book, but the text is not obscured.
  4. Poor
Books in poor condition will only be distributed with Borrowed Books if new copies are not available by the publisher. This condition includes books with damaged spines, bent covers, writing, and ex-library markings. You will only be charged the keeper's fee for a book in this condition if you fail to return it.

Here are a few simple steps you can take to avoid paying the Keeper's fee:

  • Return all books in their original box by the scheduled date.
  • Store Borrowed Books in a safe, dry place when not in use.
  • Teach your children to use bookmarks and not lay books face-down.
  • Keep Borrowed Books away from younger siblings.
