SketchUp - Software For Visual-Spatial Learners

Visual-Spatial (VS) intelligence is one of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. A VS learner thinks in terms of physical space and can be taught through images and physical imagery. 3-D modeling has been shown to be a very effective tool for VS learners.

In 2006, Google acquired an easy to use 3-D modeling technology used by architects called SketchUp. Not long after, architects with autistic children began commenting that their children loved using SketchUp to create 3-D renderings of buildings and neighborhoods. SketchUp allows these children to express their ideas in a visual way instead of through speach or writing. This is a welcome change for children that tend to excel at visual thinking.

Many parents have chosen to use MBTP with their Aspergers / Autistic children because it is very visually oriented and hands-on. If you have a Visual-Spatial learner, I would encourage you to check out SketchUp. The Professional version is quite expensive, but you can download the basic version for free.
